Claire Aitken from Aberuthven has achieved success representing Scotland in the Home International Regatta in Cardiff on Saturday, July 23.

Claire and Rosanna Loy, from North Berwick, won gold in the coxless pair and were part of the crew which were second in the senior women’s coxed 8.

This is the second year that Claire has represented Scotland, with wins in the coxed 4 and 8 last year.

Claire is a former pupil of Aberuthven Primary School and The Community School of Auchterarder and has just graduated from Glasgow University with a BSc (Hons) in Physiology.

She joined Glasgow University Boat Club in freshers week, having never rowed before and has achieved considerable success in her four years with them.

As well as being chosen to represent Scotland, she has had many wins at the Strathclyde Regattas and Scottish Student Rowing Championships, has won gold at British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) and has represented Glasgow University at the European University Championships in Hanover.

She has been this year’s women’s captain at GUBC, with this year’s senior squad one of the most successful in the club’s history.

She was awarded a Full Blue by the University for Outstanding Ability in Rowing.

Claire is heading south in August to Molesey Boat Club in order to further her progress in rowing.
