A WEE COUNTY volleyball team has won the Premier League Cup after a clean sweep in all their matches.

Clackmannanshire Volleyball Club, known as the Clackers, edged out waves of opposition during the cup games at Perth College Sports Hall to lift the cup.

Eight teams attended in total, and were split into two groups of four.

The Clackers trumped Kinross 21-9 in the first set to kick off their competitive debut in the competition.

They followed this up with another strong victory against Kinross in the second set, admittedly more evenly matched, but the Clackers still prevailed 21-15.

After that, the Wee County side went up against the Eagles in a closely-fought encounter, with the first set ending 21-14 in favour of the Wee County side.

The Eagles then bounced back in the second set, winning 21-18 which took the tie to a third set decider, wherein the Clackers won 5-1.

The Clackers narrowly made it into the final after a hard-fought battle with Dodgy Spikers before coming up against Mental Blocks.

They won the first set 21-18 after a flourish to score some last-minute points.

The second set ran close to the wire with both teams tied on 13 points at one point.

In the end, however, the Clackers prevailed over Mental Blocks to earn them the Premier League Cup on their debut appearance.

Niall Hammond, club secretary for the Clackers, said: “This is the second trophy that we’ve won this year so it’s quite a big deal for us.

“It was a good start for us because this is a step up for us so we thought we’d push the boat out a bit and see how we did.

“It’s quite an exciting wee time for us and to win the Premier League Cup and beat off all the competitors on Sunday was a great moment for us.”

The Clackers will add the Premier League Cup to their Division 3 title, which they won earlier this year in May.

The team is also looking to bolster its ranks and add some new members.

Those interested in playing for the Clackers are welcome to join training on Mondays at 8pm at Alva Academy.
