A RACE is set to showcase some of the best walking and running routes in Clackmannanshire at the weekend.

The Gartmorn 6 Race, organised by Wee County Harriers, will be going ahead on Sunday, March 10, with more than 300 runners set ot take on a route with mixed terrain.

Starting at 10am, the senior race will take participants from the start and finish line at Carsebridge, following the Brothie Burn before circuiting Gartmorn Dam and returning.

The event has always been popular with the established racing community while organisers are also keen to attract as many people from the Wee County as possible.

Indeed, Wee County Harriers believe the race serves as a real opportunity to promote health and wellbeing in the area by showcasing some of the excellent walking and running routes of Clacks.

Iain Barclay, club secretary, said: “Between Covid and Storm Erwin the event was cancelled for the three years from 2020 to 2022.

“In these circumstances there is always a fear you may be forgotten, so when the race returned in 2023 we were delighted to receive well over 200 entries.

“This year, we are thrilled at the running community response which has generated in excess of 300 entries.

“In fact, the junior race has seen a rise of 25 per cent in entries.

“We believe this growth is attributed to a combination of hard work and having a cracking race route with challenging but appealing terrain.

“This cannot, however, be taken for granted so our aim is to have the best ever event in 2024 and look to grow the event in quality and appeal in future years."

Those taking part will be racing across tarmac, trails and mud while several bridge crossings are also included.

The growing junior race, which has a distance of 3k, will start at the same location but loops back just before the dam before returning to the finish line by Jellyholm Road.

Everyone taking part will receive a Clacks-made race souvenir while podium finishers will receive a medal and a non-monetary prize.

Sauchie Hall will be put to good use for registration and prize presentations while offering refreshments.

The race is licensed under UK Athletic Rules and Scottish Athletics.

Organisers are grateful for the support of local land owners and Clackmannanshire Council.
