Hundreds take part in Gartmorn 6 race

The Gartmorn 6 race, organised by Wee County Harriers, saw some 250 runners take part on Sunday, March 10, in overcast but mainly dry conditions.

The six-mile adult course proved popular, and was won by Steve Feltblower, of Ochil Hill Runners, in 34.38.

He was closely followed by Sean Walker, of Pitreavie AAC, in 34.54, with third place gained by Blair Geddes, of Carnegie Harriers, in 35.04.

First female home, in a close competition, was Christie Maitland, of Pitreavie AAC, in 41.01, followed by Alison Berwick, of RTC Warriors, in 41.41.

Third place was earned by Kimberley Timmins in with a time of 41.49.

The shorter junior race, which was a two mile event, was won by Nathan Smith of Wee County Harriers in 12.09.

Other male age category winners were U12 Brady Scanlon, from Central AAC, in 12.53, and U14 Thomas Luke in 12.24.

Female age winners were U12 Lucy Feltblower in 14.22, U14 Isla Reekie, of RTC Warriors, and U16 Kayla Crawford, of Wee County Harriers, in 14.31.

There were many great times put on the board by runners who all enjoyed what was a challenging course on a mix of surfaces.

Following the race, it was over to Sauchie Hall for prize presentations and a finger buffet.

Iain Barclay, club secretary, said: “Wee County Harriers would like to thank the local land owners for access permission, Clacks Council for licensing and forest ranger support and also our vendors and sponsors Euan’s Creations, Asda, Tesco, Muitcot Farm, Arctic Therapies, Polly’s Pantry, The Bunker, the staff at the Sauchie Hall, Freedom Diving, Perfect Timing, volunteers and marshalls and of course the runners for their drive, enthusiasm and also generous footwear and cash donations to our chosen event charity ShoeShare Malawi.”

Next for Wee County Harriers will be the Cambus Quarter, a 10k race to be held on August 25.
