A local community club is giving people the chance to play walking football, regardless of their age or ability.

Wasp Community Club, which is the community football club of Alloa Athletic FC, runs three walking football sessions a week in partnership with the Scottish FA at Indodrill Stadium.

The sessions give people a chance to partake in the sport and have been running since around 2017.  The age groups available for men are 50 plus, 60 plus, 65 plus, and 70 plus, and there are various age groups for women.

The sessions are not just about keeping men and women active, the social side of it is very important too. Richard Sinclair, the sessions coordinator, said: “After it we have tea or coffee and biscuits and a chat.

"The sessions were started to get people out of the house and a wee bit fitter.

“It’s because they are enjoying it, they are coming back.”

The sessions are held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10am to 11am. It’s not essential to have played football before, anyone can come along and give it a go.

The club takes part in national cup competitions and is in the national league in the age groups of 60 plus and 65 plus.

Richard said that they are “trying to include as many people as we can".

"Nobody gets shown the door, let's put it that way,” he said.
