MEMBERS of a Wee County golf club travelled back more than a century at the weekend to mark a major anniversary.

It was a special opening day at Tillicoultry Golf Club on Saturday, April 6, as members marked 125 years of golf at the site.

The day saw the Hickroy Challenge take place to tee off the season and many embraced the special anniversary with age appropriate equipment and attire.

Players all used sets of five Hickory, old wooden-shafted, golf clubs from the Victorian era, kindly supplied by Mr Harry Bowden of Tain.

And many got into the spirit by donning an appropriate dress with flat caps galore to mark all the years since the club opened in 1899, Brian Cuthbert-Imrie winning the prize for best dressed player.

The day also marked a special year with the club appointing its first female president – Mrs Morag Jamieson raised the flag to open the season.

Starting the competition on the day were Mrs Margaret McMurray and Mr Danny McFadyen, the two longest serving members of the club.
